Associate Database Administrator

St. Louis Area

The Associate Database Administrator is responsible keeping the company data base up and running smoothly 24/7 providing a seamless flow of information throughout the company, considering both back-end data structure and front-end accessibility for end-users.

The Associate DBA will work on designing and implementing databases in accordance to end user’s information needs and views. In addition to building database systems for the company of high availability and quality depending on each end user’s specialized role.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Manage SQL Server databases from development to mission-critical production systems.
  • Provide 24x7 support for critical production systems.
  • Monitor backups and maintenance jobs.
  • Identify and tune badly performing queries.
  • Participate in SQL code reviews with development team and assists with query turning and schema refinement
  • Provide assistance with ad-hoc query development and data analysis.
  • Use high-speed transaction recovery techniques and backup data.
  • Minimize database downtime and manage parameters to provide fast query responses.
  • Provide proactive and reactive data management support and training to users.
  • Determine, enforce and document database policies, procedures and standards.
  • Perform tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy and integrity.
  • Monitor database performance, implement changes and apply new patches and versions when required.
  • No Travel expected.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience using SQL Server in a cloud environment.

Must have experience and/or exposure to the following:

  • Experience writing and debugging SQL / SSIS packages.
  • Experience with database monitoring tools (Solarwinds DPA, Data Dog, SQL Sentry, etc…)
  • Familiarity with High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recover (DR) options for MSSQL Server.

Preferred but not required skills include:

  • Experience using SQL Server in a cloud environment (Azure – SQL Database Services, AWS – RDS, etc…)
  • Experience with SSAS
  • Experience working in an Agile and fast paced team environment
